Psoriasis during the Summer
Psoriasis is an inflammatory skin disease that affects about 2% of the British population. It usually occurs between the ages of 15 and 35. Psoriasis can produce redness, which can be covered with white scales and causes skin lesions in the form of “spots” varying in size and thickness.
The summer months are when people with psoriasis see that the skin undergoes further dehydration (in comparison with the rest of the year) as it is exposed to more sunlight and higher temperatures. This heat can cause an increase in inflammation and discomfort.
Treating psoriasis with cannabinoids
Although summer can be a really tough time for people suffering from psoriasis, it is in fact the most beneficial season to treat the disease. According to dermatologists, sun and sea water can actually improve the skin blemishes caused by psoriasis.
Psoriasis is a skin disease that patients will have to deal with their whole life. Even though there are treatments that can improve the condition and some can even make it disappear, the reality is that an absolute cure for the disease has not yet been discovered.
There have been several investigations into medicinal cannabis which have demonstrated the effectiveness of the cannabinoid receptors (CB1R) to relieve symptoms caused by inflammatory skin diseases such as, psoriasis. The cannabinoid receptors are distributed throughout the skin and have anti-inflammatory properties, which means they may also be useful for the regulation of keratinocyte hyperproliferation in the skin, (one of the factors in psoriasis).
Psoriasis, like other skin diseases, is characterized by dry skin. Therefore, patients with this condition are advised to moisturize their skin daily to prevent further irritation. The CBD oils or CBD creams are highly recommended because they provide intense hydration which leads to healthier skin.
Every medical case has certain specifications; in the case of people with psoriasis who are interested in pursuing a treatment that uses cannabinoids it is advised to have a consultation to determine the guidelines to follow.
As indicated by several therapeutic researchers on psoriasis, the anti-inflammatory properties of cannabinoids work well with this type of skin lesions and has lead to significant visual improvements.
Destapate Campaign (Action Psoriasis)
‘Destapate’. The Spanish Association of Psoriasis (Psoriasis Action), has launched its summer campaign to encourage those affected by this condition to educate people about the skin condition and to encourage them to enjoy the summer without any insecurities.
Destapate invites friends and family members of those who suffer from the disease to help them to enjoy living normally, without having to hide their condition and to give them the confidence to enjoy the holidays and to be in the photos.
One of the biggest challenges for people with psoriasis is to enjoy the summer, that is why this type of campaign is encouraging everyone to actively participate in improving the quality of life of sufferers.
